As others have mentioned, the included rubber bumper washers are too thick to simply use as is. They can be cut to a thinner width with a sharp utility knife, or a hacksaw if one chooses. The shocks themselves provide a decent ride, not too stiff at all. In fact, if you are looking for ""firmness"" you might be happier with an adjustable shock. My Jeep's previous owner had these already installed when I bought the vehicle. One shock leaked. So I replaced them both. No noticeable improvement in ride was observed. The nice thing was that the Jeep already had a lift kit and wheel spacers - so this was a straight forward replacement issue.Be aware that the very top of the shock spindle has a 5-mm allen wrench socket. That's how you hold the shock body from spinning when you tighten the main nut. I had to cut the end off my 5mm Allen to get it to fit - my Jeep is a 2014 and the passenger side space at the top of the shock is minimal at best.
